Our predeparture programmes formally ended yesterday with our lifeskills session at RGS. The programme was done up mainly to get us ready for life overseas, and as they always say, “to prepare us as the ambassadors of Singapore” when we study overseas.

The first 2 days of the programme was mainly made up of talks and informative sessions with speakers coming from the Ministry of Information, Communications and Arts, the Ministry of Defence, the Singapore Police Force, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We had very open discussions with regards to a wide range of topics. Drugs, Arts, Youth, trade policies etc. I wouldn’t say that all the speakers were captivating, but surely some of them probably had no idea what they were talking about. (READ: MICA). We had alot of fun, teasing each other. TockSeng (OBS group) all wore blue on the second day! Our group was lotsa fun with the Emperor and his sidekicks. We also had a very entertaining speaker coming in to talk to us about culture shock and adaptations in a foreign land. She was a bundle of laughs. We totally enjoyed the workshop. We also had university seniors coming in and showing us some of the ropes, to get us mentally prepared for study overseas. Some of them had very good stories(and not to mention great and hilarious photos) to share with us. Many of us were enthralled and can’t wait to go!

The second part of the predepature programme was a lifeskills component held in Raffles Girls School. We learnt how to cook, how to iron, how to read care labels. We had many laughs, gourmet accidents. So people were fumbling over the food, while others like Klement were showing off “powderful” culinary skills, leaving many of us in awe. Click here to view some of the photos! I was so proud of myself to be able to handle myself pretty well in the kitchen. I’m no expert I tell ya! But hey, at least I know I won’t starve to death.
