Ok, great! Now my accommodations letter has finally arrived. The day that I’ve been looking forward. Slowly, I tear open the envelope, hoping, just hoping.
YAYs and BOOs!
I got what I wanted: A single en-suite bedroom. A bathroom to myself. A room to myself. No one to nag/whine at me. No one to bring their girlfriends into the room and make out, locking me out. EVERYTHING. However, here comes the catch: I got my accoms in Orient House, supposedly a 40minute walk from campus, 35minutes by tube/bus and 15mins by bike.

Orient House is a new accommodations hall open for the AY05-06. So everything’s brand new. Yummy. But it’s gonna cost me gbp129.30 a week. That works out to gbp517.20 a month. With gbp900 for allowances a month, I’ve gbp382.80 left for everything else, which works out to 95.7/week and 13.6/day. Hmm, come to think of it, it’s not that bad, 13.6pounds a day. I’m expecting to spend at most 10 a day on food, leaving 3.6pounds for a rainy day.
I’m still thinking if I should accept it. The cost is high. The distance from campus is long. No meals provided. I’ve got the night to decide. I’m prepared to be the usual loner when I reach there, like I always am. School, lab, back to mug. Repeat cycle. Enjoy the occasional gaming maybe. I should not spent that much, so the cost part is pretty much settled. I won’t have as much savings, but I’m pretty confident I won’t end up in the red. Distance wise, I think I would try to walk everyday to school, or probably invest in a cheap bicycle to cycle everyday to school. Cheap meals for the win!
And yes, for the supporters of the Blue Army. My hostel’s just opposite the Chelsea FC Stadium. Like, just across the road. Too bad I’m anti-Chelsea.
