Just when I thought everything was fine, and ready for London, a spanner is thrown into the works. It’s actually a blessing, but it also throws in a couple of problems as well. Yifeng just mailed me today, asking if I was interested in bunking in with him and a few of his friends.
Justin and I just found a newly refurnished 3-double-bedroom flat and we’re looking for 2 more flatmates, so just wondering if you are interested. It’s in the basement with 2 bathrooms and a beautiful kitchen, 90 pounds a week including water. The place is close to Evelyn gardens, about 10min walk to IC. Pls get back to me soon if you are interested. Thanks.
So simple, yet so traumatic. Why? Simple. In these simple lines, he has addressed 2 major concerns of mine: 1) High cost of living in Orient House, 2) Travel to campus is a bitch from Orient House. I was pretty sure of myself when I chose to stay in Orient House, after Klement’s “Are you sure?” I was pretty cocky and yeah, looking forward to it. Even though it was expensive, I know I can handle it. But here are other benefits if I stayed with Yifeng: 1) Shared cooking: Everyone can chip in and we can save on bulk purchases for provisions. 2) Friends to take care of you: You never know when you need them… 3) Travel to campus will be cut down. Alot. Therefore save on transport and buying bike etc. 4) Shared appliances. 5) Cosy feeling of home with fellow Singaporeans. Not that much, but it’s better than nothing when you miss home. 6) Save 40pounds/week = 160pounds/month. ALOT. 7) Most of the rest are yr2s: Can take care of a fresher like me. Well, not to mention the problems as well: 1) Lack of privacy: It’s 2 people in a room, so well, no freeloaders to bunk in with me when they visit, and the lack of personal space when Ivan’s in “that kind of mood”. 2) I’m nocturnal. I don’t wanna disturb people. 3) I don’t know these people. Not sure if they can take my pet peeves (vice versa) 4) Losing my 100pound deposit with Orient House. The deposit I can afford to lose, I save more in the long run. The people I can get to know over the time. Nocturnal part, I think I can just plong myself in the living room or something. Privacy? That’s probably the biggest problem I think. I just need sometime to myself sometimes. Orient House is NEW, with all the facilities.. *drool* Would that justify the cost difference? I should have just listened to Klement. If I tell him that I probably stay with Yifeng, he’ll probably gimme the “I told you so” and “Why didn’t you listen to me” look. Well, I didn’t expect people to offer me lodging. And if this didn’t come up, I would have been perfectly fine with Orient House. Yifeng’s nice to offer me this. Well, at this moment I’m still considering. Got a few days to think about it. People, please gimme some comments to help me make this decision… -sigh- Should have just listened to Klement right?!
