Yes, I’ve been busy at work, but I maintain my stance on keeping my students and colleagues away from my comments here.
Even as a government scholar, I will not stand by quietly while the mrbrown issues go by.
I acknowledge the government’s right to respond to mrbrown’s criticism. I believe that this is a much needed step in democracy’s checks and balances. I believe in the freedom of the fourth estate, but at the same time I believe in proper restraint in commentary due to certain sensitivities. I agree with self-censorship. Therefore I condemn Today’s action of suspending mrbrown’s regular column, one of the very few local social columnist who dares to express the views of the typical man on the street, the chatter at the local kopitiam, or the bitching at Starbucks. Because all he did was to bring up issues which concerned us, and that was rebutted with an unnecessarily strongly worded statement from MICA. It’s fine for we all can accept such criticism. And I believe that Today decided to suspend mrbrown’s column because they were afraid. This is a disgrace, and a huge step backwards for press development in Singapore.

I support mrbrown.
On another note, I will be writing for xsmatter as a guest writer, so I will scale down very much here. I’m getting tired of many matters. I don’t care any more. This will become a bitching site.
