A SWEETENED pay package awaits fresh graduates who join the public service from next month, with jumps in starting pay by as much as 24 per cent.

Details of the pay hike were announced on Monday by the Public Service Division (PSD), one month after Parliament debated the issue of increasing the pay of ministers and civil servants.

Under the revision, new public servants will see their starting pay go up by 8 to 24 per cent.

Those joining the engineering profession scheme with good honours degrees will get the biggest raise, earning $3,190.

But it’s fresh graduates joining the foreign and economist services who will earn the most - $3,320 a month.

Other public service schemes that will benefit include the education, statistician and home affairs uniformed services.

Already, accountants in the civil service had a $270 raise in their starting salaries this month.

The PSD, part of the Prime Minister’s Office, said in a statement that the adjustments are part of the annual salary review to ‘make sure that salaries keep pace with the market’
