Monday was supposed to be D-Day. I was to present a paper framework to the Boss’s Boss, ie. Bigger Boss. We all had a discussion with our Bosses on Friday, and expected a reasonable acceptable level of walking Bigger Boss through our logic and arguments. The Bosses had no qualms with the other 2 presentations, they had with mine. Not because I didn’t do it properly, it was just that my topic was something less factual and difficult to pull through.

On D-Day, all the Heads, including those not our Bosses gathered in The Meeting Room, along with our permanent colleagues who decided to "sit in for the show". I don’t know about the other 2, but I got pretty butchered by Bigger Boss. Boss was trying hard to cover me, but she knew if I was to prove myself, it would be up my fighting spirit. SA said to me before we started, "Batism of Fire, pray for sunshine."

"Are you sure they said this? Or did you think they meant this? Boy, there is a huge difference between what they said, and what you think they said."

"Did they say this happened? Or did they say they believe this will happen? Or did they say this will happen?"

"Are they stating a fact or an opinion?"

"Is this a finding or your own opinion?"

Obviously I stood firm defending my framework and clarifying all the issues taking hits and suffering cuts, admitting I did not probe enough in certain cases. Bigger Boss was relentless.

"You said they told you this, so give examples of how they say we can help."

"You mean they are not happy? Or you think they are not happy?"

"Can you quote them verbatim? Or did you quote them out of context?"

"Are you willing to stand by your paper?" Yes, duh.

"Ok, you better do a good job, I want to table your paper." HUH? DIE LA. TABLE WHERE?

Sigh, I’m now writing v5 of the paper already. Still writing and tomorrow’s deadline!
