Temasek Forum is an annual event organised by Cambridge’s Temasek Society in conjunction with the Public Service Commission. This year forum will be held tomorrow in Franklin-Wilkins of King’s College London, and I’m kinda looking forward to it, even though I just got home and I’m dead tired.. It’s 12 minutes past midnight, YAWN.
THE TEMASEK FORUM 2007
"SINGAPORE’S CHANGING LANDSCAPE: IS THERE ROOM FOR US?"
17th November, 10am-3:30pm
Franklin-Wilkins Building, Waterloo Campus
King’s College London
The projected 40% population increase (from 4.5 to 6.5 million) that was announced in Parliament this year has raised huge concerns about our abilities to cope with a dynamically changing Singapore.
Is there enough space to house all of us? Would our quality of life degrade? Will we be able to embrace foreign citizens and the cultures they bring, or will our social fabric be torn apart? As Singaporeans in the UK, anticipating these thorny issues might help us to deal with them when we return home.
To answer these burning questions and to engage you in in-depth discussion and debate, The Temasek Society is deeply honoured to have the following distinguished panelists join us here in London:
* Mr Lim Siong Guan, current Chairman of the Economic Development Board, Group Managing Director of Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, and former Head of the Civil Service;
* Dr Lim Wee Kiak, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC, deputy director of The Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group, and consultant eye surgeon; and
* Mr Christopher De Souza, Member of Parliament for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, and a lawyer with Lee & Lee.
As you can see, we got several hotshots here who are willing to spend a long afternoon discussing several issues with all distingushed participants. The programme looks exciting with various keynotes and interaction sessions focusing on different aspects of the topic for discussion, and I look forward to a good intellectually stimulating afternoon!
I’m just gotten quite sick of recent round-table flops that I’ve attended, so I’m actually looking forward to something which should work out nicely.
