Now that the dust has settled over packing, I went into the serious business of getting all my data and my finances in shape and organised. One of the biggest problems I had in the past was backup. I used to burn DVDs of data every week to archive, but I kinda got lazy and stopped somewhere along the way. The big switch over to Apple made life much much easier with Time Machine, and I swear by it. I have been saved countless times by this little gem.
The problem came when I work on the go, sometimes not bringing my backup hard disk along. And we all know about redundant backups, right? I was testing a couple of backup solutions for a while and Ridz too. After a couple of months, I decided that Mozy was the best solution for me.
It was free, for 2GB of space, more than enough for my critical documents folder. Everything else was backed up off site physically. I have never been a huge fan of sticking 200GB of data into the Cloud. Too much data, too troublesome. I believe in planning your back up solutions properly for maximum efficiency, and spending 400hours trying to upload 200GB on the first back is not my idea of an efficient solution.
It was painless. Idiot-proofed I believe. Select, and forget.
It is secure. Encrypted on my hard disk using the Blofish algorithm before getting uploaded, I’m pretty much happy with the security.
Until a better solution comes to mind, I am going to keep using Mozy. Maybe you might want to try too.
