Geneva(Genève)

Conquered on 23/03/2005 - 24/03/2005

After a quick half day run through the beautiful city of Bern, we took the train at about 1pm to Geneva, the city that almost everyone thinks is the capital of Switzerland. Herein lies the European seats for the United Nations, the International Red Cross, World Health Organisation, World Trade Organisation, CERN (for those Dan Brown fanatics like me) and other international organisations. We arrived at about 3pm, and made our way to the hostel to dump our stuff before proceeding on a quick tour of the place.

We started our trip in Geneva down towards the town region of Geneva, where we visited the landmark of Geneva, a jet of water. There was a beautiful water front, complete with boats and gardens as well as churches. The flowers in the gardens blossomed beautifully, and in this cold chill, it was lovely. Romantic? Almost. There were a few majestics statues as well!

After taking to the City, we made our way northwards, towards another section of Geneva where all the headquaters of all the international organisations are. We decided that if we wanted to make our trip to Geneva complete, we should at least visit and see the headquarters of the United Nations, the Int. Red Cross.

After visiting the headquarters, we decided to make our way back to the hotel by the tram system. We were feeling hungry, and so we decided to walk up and down the streets looking for food. CHEAP food. However, the swiss defination of cheap happens to be very much different. Their cheap meant a nice diner costing about 15sF, which would mean... (at the exchange rate os S$1.4sF = S$1). Go work out yourself. So we had...

We had an early night as we were all jet lagged from Singapore to hell, quote. This was an eventful night because in the middle of the night, about 11pm, we had visitors. Our bunk was a 6man bunk, so with the 3 of us, there was still 3 beds empty. Apparantly the owners decided to be economical and put 3 more Americans in our bunks (2 females, 1 male) at about 11pm, when we're asleep. Well, I was awaken. We said our hi's and went back to bed. The next morning, we made our way down to the food hall for breakfast that was provided. (Last night's dinner was NOT, we had to PAY!) After which, we returned to the bunks, packed up and left, heading for our next destination... Lausanne, by train again!
